NGOPedia:How to edit a page

From NGOPedia

Jump to: navigation, search

NGOPedia is a wiki, which means that anyone can easily edit any unprotected page and save those changes immediately to that page. After your first edit, you are a NGOPedia editor!

Editing most NGOPedia pages is not very difficult at all. Simply click on the "edit" tab at the top of a NGOPedia page (or on a section-edit link). This will bring you to a new page with a text box containing the editable text of the original page. If you just want to experiment, please do so in the sandbox, not here. You should write a short edit summary in the small field below the edit-box. When you have finished, press the Show preview button to see how your changes will look. You can also see the difference between the page with your edits and the previous version of the page by pressing the "Show changes" button. If you're satisfied with what you see, press the Save page button. Your changes will immediately be visible to other NGOPedia users.

You can also click on the "discussion" tab to see the corresponding talk page, which contains comments about the page from other NGOPedia users. Click on the "+" tab to add a new section, or edit the page in the same way as an article page.

For an introduction on how to edit pages in detail, see the editing help of Wikipedia. Since Wikipedia is based on the same software that powers NGOPedia, usage is mostly similar. Once you know the basics of editing, the MediaWiki cheatsheet provides a more convenient reference for the most important statements.

To get started, you might want to edit the article about yourself: enter your full name (in its normal writing, including spaces) into the search field on the left. If the page exists you can go right there to update the information about yourself. If there is no article of that name already, you can create it by choosing create this article in the result page. The simplest way to quickly get a personal page is to copy the source of someone elses page and to modify it accordingly. The Template:Person used on most personal pages classifies your page so that it is listed among all persons.

Have fun!
